SINOPSIS
Tras la caída de Saddam Hussein, miles de palestinos avecindados en Irak se han convertido en refugiados en tierra de nadie. La lejana república de Chile ha dado la bienvenida a un grupo de ellos en La Calera, una pequeña ciudad que cientos de palestinos llegados hace un siglo y sus descendientes han hecho propia.
El viaje continúa, tal como hace 100 años
Basem, un palestino que acaba de llegar con su esposa y su pequeña hija, enfrenta su nuevo país lleno de entusiasmo, ingenuidad y esperanza. Añora un hogar en este mundo desconocido y seductor, a miles de kilómetros de su tierra natal.
En su nuevo país, Basem recupera su oficio de panadero y monta su propio negocio. Tiene la esperanza de que sus esfuerzos y el apoyo de la numerosa comunidad de descendientes de palestinos lo ayudarán a cumplir su sueño: traer a sus ancianos padres con él para vivir todos juntos otra vez.

Palestine in the South
SYNOPSIS
After the war in Iraq, thousands of Palestinians have become refugees in no man’s land.
The faraway Republic of Chile has welcomed some of them to live in the small city of La Calera, as it did over 100 years ago with Palestinian immigrants escaping Ottoman oppression.
Today, like a century ago, the journey repeats itself...
Basem, a young Palestinan who arrived with his wife and young daughter, faces his new country full of enthusiasm, ingenuousness and hope, longing for a place to call home in an unknown, seductive and contradictory world, thousand of kilometers from his homeland.
In his new country, Basem recovers his trade as baker and sets up his own business. He hopes his efforts, together with the help of the big community of Palestinian descendants, will lead him to accomplish his dream: to bring his elderly parents, still trapped at the refugee camp, to live with him again, now in Chile.

A series of seven micro-documentaries on rural communities near Santiago de Chile, and their attachment to historic buildings damaged by time and earthquakes.
It was designed for local, community TV, but it ended up being aired to the whole country on cable television.
